cronable
Trello integration

Trello automation for boards that keep moving.

Trello is where a lot of small teams run their week. Cronable creates cards from emails and forms, moves and archives them as work finishes, and starts a workflow the moment a card changes on the board you choose.

One workflow, end to end

A Trello workflow on the canvas

Each card is one job. A wire means the next job runs when the one before it succeeds, or when it fails.

Or type it to the assistant

“When a card on my Clients board moves to Done, post it to #team in Slack.”

What you can do

Every Trello step Cronable ships

Actions

Steps a workflow can take in Trello.
  • List boards, lists and cards

Read your boards, a board’s lists, or the cards on a list or a whole board.

  • Get a card

    Read one card by ID.

  • Create a card

Add a card to a list with a name, description, due date and position.

  • Update a card

Rename it, change the description or due date, move it to another list, or archive it.

  • Add a comment

    Comment on a card.

  • Create a list

Add a list to a board.

  • Custom request

    Any other Trello REST endpoint.

Triggers

What starts a Trello workflow.
  • Board, list or card changes

Pick a board, list or card to watch and Cronable registers the webhook. Every action on it, such as a card moved, a comment added or a list created, starts a run with the event attached.

Popular workflows

Trello workflows worth automating first

01

Done cards announced

The Trello trigger fires on every change to a board, a Filter step keeps cards moved to Done, and Slack tells the team.

02

Requests become cards

Each Typeform response or support email creates a card on your intake list, with the details in the description.

03

Overdue card nudges

List a board’s cards each morning, let a Code step keep the ones past due, and comment on each to bring them back to the top.

04

Weekly board tidy-up

Every Friday, archive cards that have sat in Done for a week, so Monday starts clean.

How you connect

Connecting Trello

Trello connects with an API key and a user token, both pasted. Neither ever goes in a URL.

  1. 1Get your API key and generate a user token from Trello’s Power-Up admin page.
  2. 2Store them together as a username-and-password credential: the key as the username, the token as the password.
  3. 3For the trigger, choose what to watch and Cronable registers the webhook through Cronable’s relay, from the Basic plan up.
Why Cronable

Your Trello automation, on your own machine

Runs on your own machine

Install Cronable as a Mac or Windows app, or on a server you own. Your Trello jobs, secrets and run history stay on that machine by default.

Built from one sentence

Describe the workflow in plain English and the built-in assistant builds the jobs, the schedule and the failure handling for you to review on the canvas. On every plan, including Free.

Unlimited runs

Plans count the jobs you define, not how often they fire. A job that touches Trello every hour costs the same as one that runs once a month.

Credentials encrypted locally

Keys and tokens are AES-256-GCM encrypted in a local database, referenced from jobs by name and masked out of logs and run output.

Questions

Trello automation, answered

Can Cronable create and move Trello cards?

Yes. It creates cards, updates, moves and archives them, adds comments, creates lists and reads boards, lists and cards.

How does Cronable authenticate with Trello?

With your Trello API key and a user token, stored together as one credential. Both are sent in the Authorization header, never in the URL, and masked in logs.

Can a Trello change trigger a workflow?

Yes. Choose a board, list or card and the Trello trigger registers a webhook on it, starting a run for every action. Inbound webhooks are included from the Basic plan.

Are Trello webhook events verified?

Auto-registered hooks are protected by an unguessable per-hook URL token. If you need every event signature-checked, wire the webhook by hand and give the trigger the signing secret and callback URL.

Where are my Trello keys stored?

Encrypted on the machine running Cronable. Jobs refer to the credential by name, so neither value appears in a job file.

Anything you do twice in Trello is cronable.

Moving cards is work. Moving cards on a rule is a workflow.
